Kenya’s Big Four Agenda and India’s Partnership in Realising this Vision”

On 16 March, High Commission of India organized its annual flagship trade and investment promotion event in Nairobi. This year, in keeping with the priorities announced by H. E. President Uhuru Kenyatta, the theme of the event was “Kenya’s Big Four Agenda and India’s Partnership in Realising this Vision”. In his keynote address, Cabinet Secretary for Industry, Trade and Cooperatives H.E. Mr. Adan Mohamed appreciated India’s partnership with Kenya in manufacturing, healthcare and food security.

Chief Administrative Secretary Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) and International Trade H.E. Mr. Ababu Namwamba described India as a valuable trade and investment partner and gave broad outline of Kenya’s priorities in agriculture, healthcare, housing and manufacturing. In her opening remarks, High Commissioner Ms. Suchitra Durai highlighted the growing bilateral economic and commercial partnership between the two counties and how this comprehensive partnership is in line with Kenya’s ‘Big Four Agenda’. Mr. Kiprono Kittony, National Chairman of KNCCI and Ambassador Christopher Chika, Director Asia and Australasia Directorate of MFA also delivered their remarks at the opening session.

Dr. Manu Chandaria, Chairman & CEO, Comcraft Group moderated a panel discussion on ‘Manufacturing and Affordable Housing’ and Mr. James Mureu, National Vice Chairman of KNCCI and Co-Chair of India-Kenya Joint Business Council moderated the second panel on ‘Food Security and Health’.

Around 100 people including Hon’ble Dr. Swarup Ranjan Mishra, Member of Parliament; Trade Ministers from Nandi and Uasin Gishu Counties; Dr. Moses Ikiara, MD of Kenya Investment Authority; Mr. Patrick Mbeu, Secretary, Ministry of Housing; Mr. David Kariuki from Ministry of Health; Representatives from the County Governments as well as members of Kenyan and Indian Business Community attended the event.

India is a top trade and investment partner of Kenya. It is also the third largest source of foreign tourists to Kenya.
