Press Release

         High Commission of India celebrated the annual ITEC Day today at the Apa Pant Auditorium. The event was graced by Lt. General Mohamed A. Badi, Director General, Nairobi Metropolitan Services as the Chief Guest and Amb Arthur Andambi, Director, Asia and Australasia, Ministry of Foreign Affairs as the Guest of Honour. Ms. Namgya Khampa, High Commissioner-designate addressed the gathering and lauded Kenya's active participation in the ITEC programme as a key component of bilateral development cooperation with Kenya.  Over 120 ITEC alumni participated along with representatives from the Indian Community and members of the media.

       During his address, the Chief Guest Lt Gen Mohamed A Badi, who is himself a distinguished ITEC alumni, appreciated his time in India  under the ITEC scheme and appreciated its positive impact on his professional journey in Kenya. Other select ITEC alumni also shared experiences about  their ITEC training in India and noted its role in their professional growth as well as in fostering inter-cultural understanding.  Amb. Andambi acknowledged with appreciation India's  capacity building support to Kenya through the ITEC initiative.

        The Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) Programme was instituted by a decision of the Indian Cabinet on 15 September 1964 as a bilateral programme of assistance of the Government of India. The ITEC Programme is fully funded by the Government of India, benefitting 161 countries in Africa, Asia, East Europe, Latin America, the Caribbean as well as Pacific and Small Island countries. ITEC courses are offered in about 100 institutes in India.

         Kenya is currently allotted 240 slots per year under civilian and defence categories. IT-related courses are popular among Kenyans followed by Management and Governance. Covid-19 related e-ITEC courses were highly subscribed during pandemic period.

        Today's event also included lively cultural performances by Indian and Kenyan performers.
