The 80th Independence Day of India was celebrated with great patriotic fervour at India House, Nairobi. High Commissioner unfurled the Tiranga and read the Hon’ble President’s Address to the nation. A medley of cultural performances showcased the rich cultural heritage of India. Over 1,200 members of the Indian diaspora and friends of India joined the celebrations.

To mark 150 years of Vande Mataram, the celebrations featured a soulful rendition and mass singing of the National Song. A special exhibition on its history, legacy and enduring role in India’s freedom movement was also prominently displayed at the venue.

The programme featured vibrant cultural performances adding colour to the Independence Day celebrations. A band performance by Kalakshetra Kenya, a patriotic fusion dance by Nairobi Women’s Group, Bastar folk dance by Dhoom Macha Le Group, a patriotic dance by Rangeela Group, Bharatanatyam by Anushiva Group, and patriotic musical performances by the Shree Kutch Satsang Swaminarayan Temple Band—beautifully showcasing India’s rich and diverse cultural heritage.

On the occasion of the 80th Independence Day of India, High Commissioner laid a wreath at Nairobi South Cemetery to lay solemn tribute to the Indian soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice during the First World War.
